We will train a group of senior high school students as leaders prior to the conference. They will perform skits, give testimonies and help where they are most needed. If you would like to apply to be a Disciple, call or write the conference office. You must be available from Monday July 12 to Sunday July 18.

Background
The Disciples Program is for mature and sincere youth looking for an opportunity to grow spiritually, to develop leadership skills and to serve others. The program is affiliated with the Journey to the Father Catholic Youth Conference in St.Raphael’s Ontario, July 17-19, 2009. The conference is sponsored by the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall. The Disciples Program runs from Monday July 12 at 1:30 p.m. until after the conference on Sunday July 18.

Selected participants should plan their own travel to arrive at the conference site by Monday July 12 before 1:30 p.m. (after lunch). Details regarding travel and other information will be sent later to successful applicants. The Disciples will be expected to remain on site after the other participants head for home (until approximately 5 p.m.) on Sunday to help with take down and clean up and should make their travel arrangements accordingly.

There is an added cost of $100 to cover meals and accommodation for these extra four days. The basic conference registration is $125. Total cost for a Disciple is $225.  If this poses a real financial burden, please attach a note to your application.

The Disciples will be led by Sarah Cottenie, a staff member from NET Ministries of Canada, ably assisted by the MC's Katie Lawson and Jonathan Crichlow.  The team will be housed at Shalom Retreat Centre at the Conference site in St. Raphaels. Their days will be filled with prayer and liturgy, skit and witness practices, help around the conference site, with time for fun and developing new friendships.

During the conference they will greet delegates and help them feel at ease, participate in skits, witness if asked to, and generally encourage enthusiasm and appropriate behaviour from the other young people. They act as role models to lead other young people to the Lord.

A parent/ guardian must read and sign the application. After completing the application, please ask a parish priest, teacher or youth leader to fill out the recommendation sheet. He/she should send the recommendation sheet directly to us. Send the rest of the application as well as a recent photo of you by May 10th (in order to reach us by the May 16th deadline)., to the following address: Catholic Youth Conference, Alexandria-Cornwall Diocesan Centre, P.O. Box 1388, Cornwall, ON., K6H 5V4.

PLEASE NOTE:
Applications for returning Disciples: Personal information must still be filled out completely with the picture and parental signature. The pictures help the leaders recognize the team upon arrival. Instead of answering the essay questions, please write a paragraph about why you would like to return as a Disciple for the second year and what you feel you can contribute. You do not need a new letter of reference.

• We are looking for a diverse and balanced group of teens in terms of ages, aptitudes etc. You will be notified before the end of May about your acceptance. Some may hear sooner than others and everyone who applies will be contacted.
